behind the diy
The Beginning
I grew up with hard working parents who were always doing it themselves. My dad was a mechanic and always tinkering with fixing something. He had so many tools, and I was always interested in watching him. My mom was always just cooking, cleaning and helping out with what needed done.
Watching them growing up ignited a curiosity and passion for tools and DIY home projects.
It started out as practical for me. I wanted and needed things I couldn't buy. But learning about tools, design and building things created a confidence and spark I didn't realize I needed in my everyday life. It's been an opportunity to express my creativity and find the layers of who I am. It's followed me all of my life and it's transformed not only my house, but myself. It became my passion and goal to create a business doing what I love – teaching women how to DIY home projects too.
From Overwhelmed to Aligned:
But then there was a time when I felt like everything would come in waves of happy and sad. During those downtimes I was holding everything together with duct tape (and maybe a glass of wine)—my emotions, my home, my energy, and my peace. Life with kids (a very strong willed one at that), a husband, and the daily demands of being “everything to everyone” left me feeling ungrounded, constantly in survival mode.
I realized I didn’t have a strong inner foundation to return to when things got hard.
Then my dad passed away—and the year that followed left me heartbroken, crushed, and questioning so much. That loss became a painful but powerful wake-up call: life is short, and I was no longer willing to live it disconnected from peace, purpose, or presence.
Purpose with Power Tools:
So I started to rebuild—not just my home, but myself.
I craved rhythm and routine in this life that felt chaotic. I began with small, healing steps: praying in the quiet of the morning before the day started. Stretching. I stopped taking my adder all and stopped drinking alcohol. I started listening to my body and making sure I didn't miss my annual appointments. Taking supplements that actually made me feel nourished. Reading the Bible a few times a week. Learning how to calm my nervous system and get out of that constant fight-or-flight state.
But the real shift happened when I picked up power tools again—not just to DIY, but to create small pockets of function and beautiful spaces to calm the chaos and build memories. My new addition to life, centering it around Christ.
Changing Lives:
I changed my Instagram handle to Prayers and Power Tools because that’s truly what this journey has become. Yes, I teach women how to use power tools and get started with DIY. But I’m also helping women pick up the tools to rebuild from the inside out.
Because a beautiful home means nothing if your inner world is in chaos. I’ve realized that this passion is shared amongst many and I find true fulfillment helping women believe in themselves and start their DIY journey.
Now, I help overwhelmed women create peaceful homes from the inside out with the exact framework that worked for me. These strategies led to a creative outlet that directly impacts my confidence, mood and overall home life.Through hands-on DIY, prayer, and intentional projects—so they can build sanctuary and strength.
Whether you're a complete beginner or someone returning to DIY with a new purpose, you're not just building shelves—you’re reclaiming your joy and confidence with every project. It's been an opportunity to express my creativity and find the layers of who I am. It's followed me all of my life and it's transformed my house into a place that reflects who I am and supports who I’m becoming—a home filled with intention, design I love, and purpose rooted in His grace..
